For the estimated 20,000 people with sickle cell in the United States who qualify for the treatment, the start of Kendric’s monthslong medical journey may offer hope. But it also signals the difficulties patients face as they seek a pair of new sickle cell treatments. For a lucky few, like Kendric, the treatment could make possible lives they have longed for. “Sickle cell always steals my dreams and interrupts all the things I want to do,” he said.

Sydney CNN —An Australian physical education teacher who murdered his wife so he could start a new life with a teenage student has been found guilty of sexual abuse. Dawson was found guilty last year of murdering his first wife Lynette in a conviction that ended one of Australia’s longest-running cold cases. Judge Huggett sided with AB, finding that Dawson had groomed the teenager while she was still his pupil. Judge Huggett said she accepted the evidence that Dawson had proposed to AB at least once in 1980, when AB was 16. AB had testified against Dawson in the murder trial, which saw Dawson jailed for 24 years.

Joshua Harmon’s “Prayer for the French Republic,” a play about a family grappling with contemporary and historical antisemitism in France, will transfer to Broadway this winter. The play will be produced by the nonprofit Manhattan Theater Club, which last year presented the play's first run Off Broadway. The production comes as concerns about antisemitism have been on the rise in the United States and beyond. “Prayer for the French Republic” will be Harmon’s second play on Broadway; his poignant singleness comedy, “Significant Other,” had a run in 2017 at the Booth Theater. But Harmon is probably best known for another comedy, “Bad Jews,” which was widely staged around the country.
